SINCE the Knap Pool closed I have been swimming at Watchtower Bay and the pebbles and over the last few weeks I have heard complaints from residents and visitors about the lack of toilet facilities near these beaches.
I have been asked on numerous occasions where the nearest toilets are.
Parents with young children have the choice of walking the length of the promenade to reach the toilets at the Knap car terrace or walking to Romilly Park.
At one time there were adequate toilet facilities at the Knap, but the council in its wisdom decided to close these.
This was not too bad, as at that time more people were using the pool and not the beaches and the pool had a toilet block.
For the sake of a couple of pounds being spent on locks when the pool closed, the iron gates on these toilets could have been secured, which might have stopped the vandalism that took place.
An entrance could have easily been made from the promenade to allow these toilets being brought back into service.
It is no wonder that the council has a £5,000,000 deficit when by saving a few pounds, damage amounting to £1,000 has occurred.
Who made the decision not to provide any locks, and did he/she receive praise for saving the council at least a fiver in that year's budget?
