CD review Kosheen : Kokopelli

KOSHEEN'S newest offering to the chart world is the strangely named Kokopelli.

There seems to be no reference to the native American Indians pictured on the front and inside the booklet. But perhaps there is a hint of a different, older kind of music.

There is an explanation of the band's choices inside the booklet.

There are 12 tracks on the CD, including an exclusive internet-only bonus track, but it lasts for more than an hour, and the quality never lets up.

The band has three members - Sian Evans, Darren Beale and Markee Morrison - and together they have come up with some very new sounds.

Several songs have a very atmospheric ring to them, with a droning bass and strong vocals.

There are others that sound a little more mainstream, but still with that distinctive Kosheen sound.

And there are one or two, like Coming Home, Ages and Little Boy that have quite a nostalgic feel to the lyrics.

On the whole, this is a great album to sit and listen to, at times it seems soothing and relaxing, and at others there is a definite upbeat essence to it.

If you are a fan, this album will not let you down, but if you have only caught their single releases, this would probably be a good starting point for your collection. Either way, Kokopelli is worth a shot.
