Norma D Clissett, a pupil at the Barry Girls' Grammar School has been awarded a State Scholarship.
The Glamorgan County Championship Gala will be held at the Swimming Baths, Cold Knap, on Saturday, beginning at 6.30pm.
It is hoped that the Water Polo Match for the Peter Freeman Trophy will take place then between Barry Club Juniors and Maindy Juniors.
The Barry Labour Party have to face a deficit of £300 on their two fetes held at Romilly Park. The first one held on July 11 realised a loss of £200 due to rain.
The bakery department of Astra Trading Co Ltd, Barry Road, Barry, are one of the finalists in a national competition for the Gold Cup which is awarded Annually for baking the best Procea bread.
It is announced that the Barry light-heavyweight, Dave Williams will fight Ken Rowlands (Luton) for the light heavyweight championship of Wales at the Coney Beach arena, Porthcawl, on August 26.

The world-wide shipping recession continues to prove a bonus in income for Barry Docks. Four ships, including a tanker, are laid up at Barry, and having to pay substantial berthing charges, although other BP tankers, laid up for many months, have been sold to foreign countries.
Time was gained for Christine Hatcher (20) of Aneurin Road, Barry, and Steven Wheatly (19) of Porthkerry Road, Barry, at Butlins' Centre, Clacton, last week, because both won a wristwatch in the Timex Time Competition.
At the Community Hall on Tuesday week, the members of the Barry Island Darby and Joan Club met their previous leader, Mrs Edna Hellings, who is on one of her rare visits to Wales from Australia, where she had been for the last eight years.
Problems with raw sewage which flooded into one house and threatened other houses in Price Avenue, Cadoxton, during recent heavy rain have been taken up by Barry's MP Sir Raymond Gower.
