Public plans

ONE of the most pleasurable sights in Barry is the former town hall wrapped up like a cocoon with the additional sounds of work being done within the building.

I was, therefore, surprised to read in a recent edition of the local paper a statement from one of the new appointments to the Vale Council stating "that the most contentious issue in Barry was the Town Hall and Central Park".

Contentious, surely not, I believed that everyone had been consulted and agreement reached for the development to go ahead, so why is it described as the most contentious issue in Barry?

After over 18 years of bitter argument and confrontation with Dilys Colbourne and the Barry Action Group the lessons must have been learnt that all interested parties should be involved in the final decision of what will be built.

I found, however, that this is not the case.

No consultation has been held with any of the interested parties and that the ruling Conservative party will not allow any consultation to take place.

I would suggest that the plans for the Town Hall, Central Park and King Square be published so that the public of Barry can see what is being proposed.

It has been described as the catalyst for regeneration, the cultural centre, a focus of pride for the town.

We do not want any more contentious issues, we have had over 18 years of those, publish the plans, explain why no consultation has been held and let us see if the authority has got it right this time.
