Go Dutch with Eluned

A DEDICATED Barry teenager is looking for cash help after being selected to represent Wales in an international Guide event.

Sixteen-year-old Eluned Sian Davies will represent Girlguiding Cymru in Holland, in July, but needs £750 in funding to go.

She said: "I started with the Brownies when I was seven, and I'm now in the 10th Barry Guides.

I am the only one from Barry to be picked for Holland this year.

I will leave on July 26 and come back on August 10.

It was quite a long process, but it's a real honour to represent Girlguiding Cymru at such a big event.

I had to go to at least five camps to qualify for selection, so I'm really pleased."

Eluned added: "My only concern is I have to find the funding.

The Guides will pay ten percent and I will be given some money from the Scouts and Guides fair.

"But the trip costs £500, without the extra equipment I'll need."

In total, Eluned thinks she will need to raise around £750 to get her over to the Netherlands.

She added: "The Guiding movement is an important community organisation and does much to instil in its members a sense of service and responsibility.

"If anyone feels they can make an investment in this trip, it will help Wales continue a good international name.

It will also help put Barry on the map in other corners of the world.

And if I raise over the amount I need, it will go towards helping those who have not been successful in raising the full amount."

Her mum Jan, 46, said: "It is a fantastic opportunity for Eluned.

To secure the place, my husband Paul and I have put down the £150 as a deposit, and Eluned is making great strides in raising the rest herself."
