Speed limits

WITH reference to a letter in your May 1 issue from R B Douglas, Park Road, in which reference was made to a 20mph speed limit in Porthkerry Park (replaced subsequently by ramps because that limit was constantly being ignored).

I recall that John Prescott when Labour came into office in 1997 pledged to reduce speed to 20mph in towns yet so far there is no overall ruling on this.

Maybe if that speed limit was implemented then possibly we could get our pavements back instead of them being used as cycle tracks.

This is dangerous not only for the elderly but if prams are pushed out on to the pavement or dogs on leads.

The danger is not only for the pedestrian but for the cyclists.
