THE BARRY and District News has made a guest appearance on one of Wales' most popular comedy shows.

Everyone's favourite paid-for weekly was featured on last week's episode of ITV'S Thursday night programme, 'Barry Welsh is Coming.'

Comic John Sparkes was spotted reading a copy of the newspaper while he was filming his roving reporter sketch 'Hugh Pugh' in Barry.

He told the News: "Barry is close to my heart because I named the character Barry Welsh after it."

This week we saw our namesake putting local celebrities under the spotlight.

This included quizzing Vale resident Sian Lloyd on her performance in the TV reality show smash 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here".

He said: "Yes, I understand Sian was a bit constipated. I sympathise. I had to see a doctor once because I was constipated. He said fresh fruit was the answer. Well, the bananas were alright but I couldn't get the apples up there.

And if Sian can't get hold of any bananas, she could try grapes. But only one at a time."

Tonight's episode sees John Sparkes' latest creation 'Welshman' who is a true champion of the Welsh people. It is the new latex-clad superhero who takes on the likes of Rhodri Morgan and rescues the National Eisteddfod.

John added: "He responds only specifically to Welsh emergencies.

"For instance, in one programme, he goes to the aid of Welsh learners who can't remember which words to mutate. It really is a job for 'Welshman'."

The fifth series of 'Barry Welsh is Coming' is currently on Thursday nights at 11pm on ITV1 Wales.
