Bemused

THE Barry Branch of the Royal British Legion was surprised to receive the letter of March 19 from Cllr Lionel Rees, vice-chairman of the Memorial Hall management committee, and surprised to see details of that letter in the press before we had time to reply.

We were particularly surprised at the paragraph: "The management committee would like to uphold the long-standing relationship the Royal British Legion (Barry Branch) has with Barry Town Council which provide in-kind: monthly meeting facilities, storage accommodation and use of the Memorial Hall theatre facilities for the purposes of promoting the work your group undertakes."

The meeting facilities (two hours per month in the Barry Town Council chamber) and the storage facilities (part of a store room used for poppies and wreaths for Remembrance Day) are both in Barry Town Council annexe, not the Memorial Hall.

The reference to the "use of the Memorial Hall theatre facilities" is a mystery to us.

When we have used parts of the Memorial Hall, we have paid the normal hire rate.

Cliff Darlington, Secretary, Barry Branch, The Royal British Legion.
