Husband 'full of remorse'

A CHEATED Barry husband who is accused of beating his wife to death later told his son how sorry he was for what he had done.

Cardiff Crown Court has heard how Christopher Michael Pugh was full of remorse after the incident at his Court Road home last year.

His son Michael Pugh broke down in tears in the witness box as he told a murder trial how his Dad said how much he loved him just hours after allegedly battering wife Karon with a hammer.

The trial has heard how nurse Karon started the romance with landscape gardener John Simms after meeting him on holiday in Spain.

Speaking of his 43-year-old father, Mr Pugh said: "That night he had a conversation about going to Newport to see the man my mum had been seeing.

"He left my house but called back half an hour later.

"He said he loved us and said he was sorry for what he was going to do.

"He asked me to tell my sisters and my children how much he loved them."

On Tuesday, the jury of seven women and five men were shown the two bloodstained hammers used to batter Karon and the dressing gown cord used to strangle her.

Michael Pugh told Cardiff Crown Court he had become aware of his mother's relationship with Mr Simms after she returned from holiday - and how his parents' marriage had run into trouble.

He said: "After my dad found out about the affair he was gutted, devastated. Once I went round and mum was crying, just crying.

He added: "There was a spot of blood in the corner of her mouth.

As I walked in dad walked out of the kitchen.

"He came in and threw paint over me and my mother."

Karon, 43, died from head wounds caused by the blood-stained hammers found at their marital home in Barry.

Pugh denies murder.

The trial continues.
