THE DEVASTATED family of a young Barry man killed in a tragic collision, which was witnessed by his twin brother, have paid tribute to him.
Twenty-year-old Steven Leigh Rayment, of Weston Hill, was involved in a road traffic accident at Pen-Y-Turnpike Road, Dinas Powys, on Tuesday, April 22.
The accident happened at 3.45pm when the motorcycle he was driving was in collision with a Talbot motor caravan.
He was coming home from his catering job at Cardiff's National Assembly, where he worked with his twin brother Terry, who was following behind on his own motorcycle. On impact, the van burst into flames.
And despite successful attempts by passers-by to free Mr Rayment from under the burning van, he sustained fatal injuries.
Now instead of celebrating his 21st birthday tomorrow, Steven's parents are planning a funeral.
He is survived by his girlfriend Lisa, his parents Andrea Shkensberg and Terrence Rayment, step-brother Alex plus step-sisters Lisa and Michelle.
His parents said: "Steven was absolutely passionate about motorbikes. We are devastated by his tragic death."
Jason Lloyd, head chef with Assembly caterers Avenance, also paid tribute to Steven. He called him a "bubbly, outgoing personality and a well-respected member of our team."
While the tributes to Steven pour in, Barry firefighters have praised the actions of an unknown hero who saved one of the people in the camper van.
Inside the burning vehicle were gas cylinders, in danger of exploding in the heat. Leading firefighter Martin Lambert said: "I heard from the Watch involved that a carer and a handicapped man were in the van.
"The carer got out, but the man was trapped. Somebody got to the van and pulled him out through the driver's side. He probably saved his life."
Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Roads Policing Unit at Cardiff Bay police station on 029 2022 2111.
