Hall support

THE BARRY Branch of the Royal Air Forces Association fully support the Royal British Legion, Cllr Jeff James (Vale Council) and all those concerned individuals who have called on the management of the Memorial Hall to discontinue using the nickname "The Memo" in signs and to return the emphasis back to the building's correct name of "The Memorial Hall."

The use of a nickname to remember with pride and integrity those who gave their lives in defence of our country is wholly offensive, degrading and an insult to their memory.

It is also an affront to the residents of this town.

Regretfully, Mr Ian Harris in refuting a change of name is just playing with words in an attempt to confuse, and to try to protect the perpetrators of this outrage.

Recent advertising shows the word "Memo" is six times larger than the words "Memorial Hall Theatre" below it.

Surely, is it not inconceivable to anticipate that once the town's residents have, presumably, accepted "The Memo" that the small print will quietly disappear?

It is time now for those who manage the affairs of the Memorial Hall on behalf of the citizens of Barry to revert from their ostrich-like posture.

To listen and act with reverence on the wishes of the local community, and also recollect those words: "Lest we forget" and "We will remember them."
