EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 23, 1953:

Anthony Gerald Morse, aged 12, son of Mr and Mrs Gus Morse, of Llandinam Road, has been chosen to represent Wales in the Coronation Choir at Westminster Abbey.

Barry Boys' Grammar School Sports are to take place at the Grammar School on Wednesday, May 6.

St John Nursing Cadet Olive James, of Fonmon, Rhoose, has been chosen to represent the County areas of Glamorgan on the Coronation route in London.

The promotion of Mr Jack Stevens from Serving Brother to Officer Brother is among a recent list of St John promotions in South Wales.

The recommendation of the Borough Entertainments Organiser (Mr Frank Hart) that poster competitions for pupils over the age of 15 years should be organised in the schools in Barry was accepted at Thursday's meeting of the Entertainments Committee.

25 YEARS AGO EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of April 27, 1978:

Alcwyn Prys of Dan Evans (Barry) Ltd, Holton Road, has won a brand new 2000 GL Ford Capri from Tonka.

Accusations of maladministration has been levelled against South Glamorgan Health Authority for its continuing failure to get Barry's long overdue casualty unit opened.

The Barry Philatelic Society were given a talk recently by club member Mr D Harding from the Vale.

Mrs Barbara Pearce the new leader of the Cadoxton Darby and Joan Club, made her debut on Tuesday week, and was welcomed by the members.

Members of the staff of the South Wales Electricity Board (Mr Nigel Parry and Mrs Elizabeth Williams), were welcomed to the St Nicholas Darby and Joan Club on Friday.
