I must say I am absolutely shocked by last week's front page story, 'Son aged 2 saw knife attack.' I find it inconceivable that a grown man can headbutt his wife in front of two small children and then walk away scot free from court.

The more I read the story the more shocked I became.

Firstly, I couldn't believe jealousy prompted Dwyer to headbutt his own wife, secondly, I fail to understand how he could even contemplate such a brutal attack whilst she had a babe in arms.

And, finally, for him only to stop only when his two year old asked him to beggars belief.

No wonder, we read of so many victims of domestic violence who were (and perhaps still are) reluctant to go to the police.

Why bother to go through the legal system when your attacker just walks out of the court?
