Cash will fund nerw kids club

ONE of the town's most popular community venues is jumping for joy this week after scooping some much-needed cash . Barry YMCA, at Court Road, has been granted £11,372 by the BBC fundraisers Children in Need.

They plan to use the money towards appointing an after-school club co-ordinator, tutor and activity leader for children aged between seven and 11.

Centre manager Anthea Clements welcomed the news, saying this was just the crucial support they need.

She said: "We are delighted with the continued help from Children In Need in Wales.

This is the forth year running they have assisted us financially and we appreciate their backing."

Previously, the YMCA had used the funds for play schemes, but this year the money will be used to start a club for the children in the area.

Anthea added: "Last Tuesday we received the letter saying we had been successful again. It was a relief."

The club will be up and running by September, just in time for the start of the new school term.

To help parents without transport, the YMCA will continue the strong links with Jenner and Holton Road primary schools.

Anthea said: "Both are within safe walking distance so the children can get to us even without a car."
