Super Barry take over at top of league

BARRY TOWN 3 CARMARTHEN TOWN 0

IT'S ALL Roy of the Rovers stuff as Barry swap places with TNS to go a point clear at the top.

Both teams have played 31 games with Barry now on 74 points and TNS on 73 points.

TNS drew 2-2 in a hard fought draw at Park Avenue against fourth placed Aberystwyth who played most of the game with ten men.

Third placed Bangor lost away at Connah's Quay. Effectively they are out of the championship race and must be settling for the Inter Toto Cup.

Barry now travel to strugglers Oswestry on Saturday when they should secure another win whilst TNS face a difficult trip to Cwmbran who are at Barry this Easter Monday.

Whilst Barry have hit form at the right time TNS are beginning to drop points, taking only seven points out of the last four games. Barry on the other hand, have scored the maximum 12 points.

Once again Barry showed completed professionalism by dismissing the rugged challenge of Tommy Morgan's men and completing their sixth consecutive clean sheet.

Carmarthen showed plenty of resolve, typified by gutsy midfielder Dale Price who began the game with a couple of shots and finished strongly.

Otherwise Abi Baruwa was not troubled and Barry were always on top.

It wasn't until the sixth minute that Lee Phillips brought a great save out of keeper Win Walters. Dean Rossiter tried a shot which went wide of the post as Carmarthen seemed to be seeking an early goal to sit on.

Barry were soon on the offensive and Lee Jarman sent a long ball to the far post where the on-rushing Gary Lloyd volleyed powerfully but too high.

After Akinfenwa had a shot saved by the keeper, it was no real surprise when Barry pressure paid off.

Richard Kennedy flicked a ball on to send Jon French clear and his cross was headed home by Jamie Moralee on 25 minutes for 1-0.

The keeper did well to deny Akinfenwa and Leon Jeanne, whilst Akinfenwa fired over again from close range moments later.

Claims for offside were dismissed when Moralee broke free down the left and he unselfishly crossed for Bayo Akinfenwa to hit home for a 2-0 interval lead in the 44th minute.

Moralee was man of the match for Barry and he orchestrated a great move cutting across field and sending in a perfectly accurate cross which somehow just alluded Bayo.

Moralee got a well deserved second goal on the hour, scoring from a Jamie Jenkins cross to make it 3-0.

Jenkins found himself with a clear run on goal but pulled his shot wide as a defender closed him down.

Nicky Burke, Neil Gough and Jon French had further chances for Barry but there was no further scoring.

Barry: Baruwa, Phillips, Jarman, Morgan, Lloyd, French, Kennedy, Jenkins, Jeanne (Gough) Moralee (Burke), Akinfenwa (Cotterill).

Missing for Barry were Kenny Brown who was recovering from a stomach bug and Tom Ramasut (suspended).

Supporters who want to travel to Oswestry on Saturday should ring Tim on 734050 to book a seat on the coach. The coach leaves at 9.30am.

On Monday Barry are at home to local rivals Cwmbran in a prelude to the Welsh Cup Final. Kick off is at 2.30pm.

Barry play their final game in the league at home to Aberystwyth on Saturday April 26, kick off again 2.30pm.

On this day TNS complete their season home to Bangor in what could be a nerve wracking end to the league season.

Should Barry win their last three games then they will once again be crowned champions.
