Gymnasts scoop Belfast medals

THREE girls and two boys from Barry YMCA gymnastics club entered the annual Celtic Cup gymnastic competition held in Belfast.

Barry YMCA has always been at the forefront of gymnastics in Wales and the success of the gymnasts in the Celtic Cup is a result of hard work by gymnasts and their coaches alike.

Kirsty Lawrence retained her junior title with an impressive score of 31.35 and team mate Sophie Richardson took third place in the individual competition with a score of 30.85.

Both girls represented Wales in the junior girls' team, winning a silver medal with a team score of 121.975. Olivia also won an individual bronze medal on the A-bars.

Nathan Mullet finished a credible second place in the senior boys event with a score of 53.05, losing only to Commonwealth Games finalist Adam Cox.

Nathan also took first place on floor and hi-bar and was placed in the top three in the other four disciplines.

Clinton Purnell gave a solid performance as a member of the senior boys' team event, finishing in second place with a team score of 200.65.

David Muir was unable to take part in the Celtic Cup this year due to injury.

Congratulations and well done Kirsty, Sophie, Olivia, Nathan and Clinton.
