Poll problem

MUCH media attention is given to voter apathy at the forthcoming Assembly elections.

But what about the people who wish to vote in person but who face barriers in doing so because the polling station and the voting process is not accessible?

This is the reality facing many disabled and older people the length and breadth of Wales.

At the last general election, over two thirds of polling stations in Wales failed to provide the sort of facilities needed by disabled people.

Even when the building is physically accessible, there may be problems with parking or poor quality lighting.

On May 1, regardless of whether or not you are a disabled person, you can help us carry out the largest review of polling stations and public buildings in Wales, Scope Cwmpas Cymru and the Disability Right Commission in Wales have prepared a checklist which you can take with you when you vote.

You don't have to be an expert or find answers to all the questions - first impressions are what we are looking for.

To get involved phone the hotline on 029 2066 2430, textphone 029 2049 5187.
