CD review t.A.T.u 200 km/h in the wrong lane

YOU CANNOT have missed the controversy surrounding this young female duet.

Moscow's newest export t.A.T.u have burst onto Western charts with their debut English language single All The Things She Said taken from their album 200 km/h in the wrong lane.

The single itself has an unbelievably catchy tune and has created waves with lyrics that are not about your average teenage angst.

But for those of us who remember the furore caused by Frankie Goes to Hollywood and even the fuss made when Robbie stripped everything off (yuck) in his video Rock DJ, this probably won't do the talented teenagers Julia and Lena too much harm.

The album, quite apart from the hysteria over the rain-drenched video, is very listenable.

And with the variation of languages between the tracks (for those who care, there are printed lyrics in Russian inside the sleeve), it is really interesting listening as well.

Whether you agree with their image or not, there is no denying that these young girls have cornered a piece of this very competitive market with their distinctive sound.

And they are even gathering some excellent write-ups, with some critics commending their cover of the Smiths track How Soon Is Now as better than the original.

This is a fantastic album and a must for your collection.
