AS BARRY has grown in population to almost 50,000 inhabitants, standards have deteriorated in tandem with the growth of the town.
The town's streets are never swept, bus shelters are falling to pieces and I believe are storage centres for cigarette ends.
One can see many other areas in Barry which are run down, neglected and need urgent attention, but it won't happen.
We have a steam railway which has cost approximately £4,500,000 and the sum is still growing with handouts from the Vale.
The Vale Council is proposing to spend £250,000 in the Town Hall to provide a suite for the use of the Vale council chairman.
This poses the question, who will be the new tenant of the suite in the Vale council offices?
We have witnessed the demise of the Knap Pool, we have listened to the excuses from the Vale council for the loss of revenue and the subsidies that the ratepayer would be asked to meet, but read about other councils in Europe that are expanding outdoor swimming pools to the benefit of all.
