Unsociable

HOW interesting to read of Steve Hunt's concern for local skateboarders in last week's issue.

How humble that the skateboarders don't complain about the skate park for fear it will be removed.

How strange that the majority of skateboarders at the Knap don't actually skate in the designated area, but prefer instead to congregate on the promenade.

Here they erect makeshift ramps, demolish stone balustrades and smear wax over seats and walls.

Their presence alone is intimidating, their behaviour anti-social. How much better for this area if the skatepark was removed.

It is an eyesore; obviously unsafe and impossible to supervise.

Jane Hutt's time and energy would be better employed in finding a suitable site for the skate- park.

A site where the activities of these youngsters could be monitored and not allowed to upset local residents and visitors.
