Lloyd penalty wraps it up

CONNAH'S QUAY 0, Barry Town 2

EVERYTHING is happening so quickly at Barry Town.

News of the signing of Nigerian World Cup keeper Abiodun Barawa will show people that John Fashanu means business.

Barawa is 27 years old and will be the first Nigerian or even African player to join Barry Town.

Likely to play next Saturday against Cwmbran, it will seem hard on Andy Grainger who was man of the match against Connah's Quay with a sterling performance which included at least three top quality saves.

The class of the Nigerian means he will likely be with Barry just a short time, as he is already a target for several Football League clubs.

Barry are currently second, three points behind TNS who are on an unbelievable run, dropping just four points out of a possible 48. They will certainly need a dip in form if Barry are to become champions again.

Barry were denied a second minute penalty when Moralee was pulled down in the box. The pitch was extremely heavy from the start and made things very tricky, but it was Andy Griffiths who went close for the home team on eight minutes. His stunning 35 yard drive flew just past the post.

Barry took the lead a minute later, Scott Morgan getting his first goal of the season with a crisp drive into the corner of the net. Morgan has a powerful shot and is capable of scoring many more goals if he can get forward.

Dave Toomey could have made it 2-0 after 25 minutes, George Horam clearing off the line to give the Nomads a let off.

McCosh for the home side headed over from a free kick, whilst Gary Lloyd flashed a free kick just wide for Barry.

Both keepers brought off good saves, Walsh denying a Gary Lloyd rocket and Grainger saving from Arkell and then Terry.

The Nomads were having a good share of the ball in the second half, but Andy Grainger was Barry's hero and denied Hutchinson with a magnificent stop.

Jon French, running into the box, had his shirt tugged and the referee pointed to the spot. Gary Lloyd at last got on the score sheet with a well directed penalty. Barry were 2-0 up but had to survive a Nomads onslaught and Horan, Mutton and Kenworthy all went close with Andy Grainger again in magnificent form to keep a clean sheet.

Exciting times

Barry go to Cwmbran on Saturday with a new spur on their heels. The knowledge of change can be unsettling but the players know there is no room for complacency. These are exciting times for Barry Town AFC but all exciting times can be scary and the future is an open book with many new chapters yet to be written.
