It was announced last week that Mrs P Winn-Jones of Sully, has been appointed a Glamorgan County magistrate.

Directors of Barry Town AFC received their best ever Christmas box on Thursday in the shape of a £500 gift from the Ladies Auxiliary.

For 13-year-old Joanna Cobb, of Penmark Vicarage, Barry, Wednesday next (December 14) is going to be a very special day. When Prince Charles visits Manchester's famous Chetham's School of Music, Joanna will be a member of the school's intermediate string orchestra.
At the annual dinner of the Aberbeeg Old Age Pensioners' Association, the chief guests were Mr and Mrs Brinley Lane.
A very welcome addition to the Barry Lifeboat funds has been received thanks to the children of Romilly Junior School. On Wednesday week the coxswain, Ted Powell, and crewman, Len Dare, went to the school to give a short talk and were presented with a cheque for £35.
A native of Barry, Mr Arthur Williams, has been appointed Dyfed County Council's deputy treasurer.
Welsh comedian Stan Stennett unveiled a plaque at the official opening of the Gibbonsdown Jubilee Community Centre on Saturday week.
