Sports development unit unveil new strategy document

THE VALE of Glamorgan Council's Sports Development Unit has outlined its long-term plans to improve sporting opportunities for youngsters across the area.

Launched at Barry's Romilly Junior School, the three-year strategy focuses on a number of key areas, including developing and improving opportunities for girls and the disabled, increasing after school sports club provision via the Dragon Sport scheme, and improving coach development.

The strategy highlights the importance of strong community partnerships in order for young people to have a wide and diverse range of quality sporting opportunities.

Cllr Tony Hampton, the Vale Cabinet Member for Lifelong Learning, Education and Training, said: "The Sports Development Unit delivers a wide range of exciting and dynamic community programmes and it's vital we communicate our aims and objectives to the local community.

"The strategy aims to support a wide range of community groups and I'm sure it will have a major impact on improving sports provision within the Vale."

Anyone requiring a copy of the strategy should contact Vale Sports Development Manager Paul Nanji on (01446) 704614.
