Anger over new Knap properties

FURIOUS Knap residents are objecting to yet more plans for new properties.

Residents living near the former 'Water's Edge' residential home were dismayed to hear that there are plans for living accommodation to be built there.

The proposed project, set to be handed to the Vale of Glamorgan Council later this year, are rumoured to include specifications for 27 flats within one block, varying from three to six floors, with a grey metal roof and blue and white render, similar to those being built on the old Bindles site.

Residents of 17 years, Robert and Gail Gardner, of Heol y Bryn, are sick and tired of fighting a losing battle.

Mt Gardner, 53, said: "I only speak for this house, and not the Knap Community Action Group (KCAG), but we are fed up of trying to fight all these developments.

We have not been consulted about any new proposed plans. Quite frankly, we're not surprised.

"The Knap is being destroyed. There is no room for extra traffic, or parking. The whole infrastructure will suffer.

But we fought against the last developments only to lose time and time again."

Vale of Glamorgan AM, Jane Hutt, backs the campaign.

She said: "There are a number of reasons for objecting to these plans.

These include the over-development of this prime site with too many flats, poor quality design and unacceptable height reaching six storeys.

"This does not fit in with the Marine Conservation Area objectives. And I am not aware of any consultation with the local residents.

"I am making my objections clear to the Vale of Glamorgan Council."

A Vale Council of Glamorgan Council spokesman said that officers would be looking at the plans in the near future.
