Teenager lends a hand to artists

A TEENAGE entrepreneur has set up his own recording studio in his bedroom to give local talent a chance to shine.

Eighteen-year-old Ryan Sutton, who lives near Barry town centre, has the equipment to get young artists on the right road.

He said: "We'll enter into an agreement where we record and promote work for free, and if they become successful then we figure out a fee."

The Billboard Ensemble soundman first had his taste of producing at 12-years-old. He added: "I was acting then, but realised I was more interested in what was going on behind the scenes."

Fellow Billboard members Ryan and his two friends Michael Bennett, 20 and Calum Small, 20, have thought this project through thoroughly.

Called UKXP Records, Ryan and his associates will work on contacts they have already in local radio to promote their clients music. In fact, Ryan has already worked with the Super Furry Animals and knows he's on the right track.

He said: "We're looking for people between 15 and 22-years-old with original ideas, from solo artists to bands or groups of singers.

We also write music.

"Through Billboard, I've met some very talented people. But I know there is plenty of musical ability in the Vale of Glamorgan.

This will be a mutual partnership.

They get the chance to record a demo without paying £300 a day for a studio, and I get the experience I need to take my dreams further at the same time."

Ryan's studio is in a spare room and he is setting up a PO Box number for people to be able to send him samples of their compositions or performances.
