We can fix it

A MASSIVE £5,000 Fix-It campaign has been launched today to give away cash to Barry's most deserving causes.

The Barry and District News and the Round Table have teamed up exclusively in a bid to help the town's most deserving people and projects.

And all you have to do is ask!

We simply want you to write to us explaining clearly, on blank paper, exactly why you deserve a helping hand.

Give us a good reason why the campaign should step in and fix it for your group, special cause or needy friend and you could be awarded anything from £50 to £250.

The idea could be anything from new toys for a playgroup, a day trip for a sick person or a treat for a pensioner.

But don't forget the campaign will run for six weeks only so the sooner the applications are received the better.

Also, please make sure the group or individual you are nominating operate, or live in the Barry area and that you put down exactly the amount of money you require.

Although the closing date for applications is December 31, 2002, you can send in your form anytime and have the money as soon as possible.

Each application will be judged on its merits by a special Fix-It team. This consists of Barry Round Table members Steven Dite, Dean Caddy, Hugh Jones and Steve Cavell - plus Barry and District News editor Sue Vincent-Jones.

The money for the campaign is ready and waiting to be claimed.

It has been collected during the past twelve months by the Barry Round Table's successful fund-raising efforts.

These include the casino night, the charity ball and the recent boxing tournament.

The group will also be out and about street collecting next month during the eagerly waited annual trip around town with Santa's sleigh.

Members also plan to boost funds by parking the float at Barry Tesco's so children can see Father Christmas.

They will also be visiting the Starlight Foundation at Llandough Hospital.

Chairman Steven Dite told the News: "We want to give the money we raised to special causes and we want to hear from as many people as possible.

All the money has been raised with the help of the Barry people so we would like to give something back to the community."
