Dolphins

GREENPEACE and the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS) are undertaking detailed surveys of dolphins in the Cardigan Bay and off the South West coast of Britain.

These are one of the last remaining areas around the UK where dolphins, including bottlenosed and the rarer Rizzo's dolphins, seem to be relatively common. However, there are grave concerns about the survival of dolphins in the face of threats including their capture in fishing nets, chemical and noise pollution, climate change and other factors causing habitat degradation.

I have been a member of Greenpeace ever since the French secret service sank the original Rainbow Warrior and in the process killed one of the crew in 1989.

Greenpeace has always been at the forefront to alert the world to its own environmental destruction.

It has led campaigns on global warming, nuclear pollution, ozone depletion, an end to the killing of the great whales and for Antarctica to be protected from mineral exploitation.

In short it has been the consciousness of the world.

Protection of our environment and the world's wildlife must become a higher priority for us all.

I urge your readers to make an early New Year's resolution to join an environmental organisation and help save the Earth for future generations.
