Teachers and sports development unit play for charity

A SPECIAL sports event has raised more than £500 for Llandough Hospital children's ward and the Ty Hafan Children's Hospice.

Played in good spirits, a charity soccer match staged at Barry's Jenner Park stadium involved Vale of Glamorgan teachers and the Vale Council's Sports Development Unit.

The Vale District Sports Council and the Vale Council funded the programme and pitch costs respectively to ensure all the money raised went directly to the charities.

The Vale's Cabinet Member (Economic Development and Leisure), Cllr Michael Harvey, said: "Special praise should go to Mark Ellis, from Romilly School, for organising the event and I am thrilled that two fantastic local charities helping seriously ill children should benefit from the match."

Anyone requiring further information about sporting opportunities in the Vale can contact Sports Development Manager Paul Nanji on 01446 704614.
