Weavers motor to the aid of rugby youngsters

A VALE of Glamorgan company is playing a leading role in helping develop tomorrow's Welsh rugby stars.

Through its sponsorship of the Vale of Glamorgan Council rugby development programme and Dragon Sport, Ford dealership D G Weaver (Motors), of Llandow, is offering free packs containing balls, tag belts, bags and marker discs to five primary schools in the western Vale area - Llangan, Llanfair, St Bride's Major, Eagleswell and St David's.

Pictured are Vale of Glamorgan councillor John Readman (front left), Ford dealer David Weaver (front right) and Vale rugby development officer Julian McTavish with some of the youngsters who will benefit from Ford's sponsorship of the tag rugby initiative.

A community partnership between the company, local authorities and the Dragon Rugby Trust, the Ford tag rugby initiative is part of a four year programme covering schools and clubs across Wales, Scotland, England and Ireland.

Within Wales, it directly involves more than 20,000 children and provides resources to more than 300 schools each year.

In addition to the equipment, financial support offered by D G Weaver will enable the Trust to provide each school with four coaching sessions, culminating in a local schools' rugby festival.

David Weaver, from D G Weaver, said: "Ford Dragon Rugby addresses an important social issue relevant to all parents with young children. We are delighted to be investing in rugby and the youth of Wales in this way."
