Snow scene melt down for TV

A VALE actor and screenwriter has not only topped the bill in this year's British BAFTA awards for best children's programme, but he transformed a Sully garden centre into a winter wonderland for his latest performance.

Penarth's Clive Crescent resident Andy Bradshaw has penned some of the 22 episodes for this newest venture, which is going to be recorded in time for Christmas 2003.

And if it is as successful as his award winning Cawl Potsh, it should be a cracker.

He plays the magical character Barrug in the Welsh language series of the same name.

Discovered by two children, Barrug is a mystical snowman who lives in a shed at the bottom of their garden and helps them sort out the problems of life, like bullying and how best to deal with it.

On Thursday, November 7, Andy, and the crew from Apollo Television, turned Byrnawel Fuschia and Garden Centre into a wonderful snow scene for filming.

Andy said: "I'm a regular customer at the centre, and when I found out the producers were looking for a suitable location, I immediately thought of here.

It's a beautiful surrounding, and is everything we need for the filming of the outdoor scenes."

Co-owner of Brynawel Paul Fisher said: "It's incredible. A company called Snow Business from Stroud came along and, within a morning, they made the house and garden look like somewhere in Lapland."

Barrug should appear on S4C at the end of next autumn.
