BARRY spectators turned out in their thousands to enjoy the Rotary Club's annual firework fiesta.
The road leading to the island was packed with people, wrapped up in their winter woollies, ready to watch the fabulous show of explosions on Tuesday, November 5.
The show started at 7.45pm and lasted for a full 20 minutes, as over £5,000 worth of pyrotechnics filled the sky.
There were perfect conditions for the display, with the rain holding off until after the last firework had lit up the dark.
Very few people had sparklers, preferring instead the glow-sticks that were on sale.
The rotary club volunteers were there with buckets collecting money for charity, ably assisted by the Barry sea cadets.
It was excellently organised, with a loud-speaker system set up for any lost toddlers and initiating a double countdown from the spectators for the start.
The lights along the promenade were dimmed and the bonanza began, backed with a mix of classic and modern orchestral and instrumental music.
And the show itself was spectacular. The clear November sky was lit with golds, silvers, pinks, greens and the occasional bright blue in a breath-taking range of star bursts and bangs.
When the last sparkles of firework had faded, everyone started making their way off the island in an orderly fashion.
There was a large police presence but there did not appear to be any trouble.
President of the rotary club Paul Halstead said: "The event was superb. We were delighted to see everyone there.
It was a lovely mild evening and there were a number of new fireworks that I had not seen before.
The feedback I've had so far has been very positive. We don't know yet whether we covered our costs, but we had a lot of support from a range of sponsors and a lot of hard work went in to bringing it off so successfully."
