Get your bids in for charity

A BARRY hairdresser is going once, going twice, sold for charity.

Twenty-seven-year-old Donna Atwell from the Ultimate Barbers in Vere Street has organised a charity autograph auction to raise money for Latch after being inspired by one of her youngest customers.

Leukaemia patient Jamie Adamson, who is four on Christmas day, is a regular with Donna.

When he was diagnosed with the illness, Donna planned something for the charity which helps other youngsters in Jamie's position.

She said: "In the summer, his dad Paul did a sponsored head shave, and I was the one who wielded the clippers. But I wanted to do more."

It's taken five months, but Donna and her family, some who live in Hertfordshire and others who live in Barry, have collected around 25 lots for auction, which will be held in the Market Street Social Club on Saturday, November 2.

Donna added: "We've got a signed photo and certificate of authenticity from Richard Gere, a signed CD from Phil Collins, a signed photo from Frank Bruno and a pair of running shorts from Jamie Baulch - clean ones!"

Donna said: "Even the raffle is going to be great. Loads of local businesses have been so generous. Cher's Bears, Boots, Philip Saunders, Balance, Kidz Korner, Cards Plus have all donated. Halfords gave us a mountain bike and Chauffeur Line gave us a one hour ride in a Limousine."

There will be a disco in between the two events, starting at 7pm for 11.30pm. Tickets are £3 before the night, and £3.50 on the door.

They are being sold at the Ultimate Barbers in Vere Street and Perfections Dry Cleaners in Holton Road.
