IN A BID to attract more youngsters into the sport, the Vale Badminton Club hosted a special open day.
Supported by the Vale of Glamorgan Council's Sports Development Unit, the event was a great success and was attended by two Commonwealth Games representatives, Ceri Speyer and Robin Ashworth, who are members of the Welsh Badminton squad.
The club is now looking for competitive youngsters aged eight and over interested in joining a junior team, and further information can be obtained by going along to the Cowbridge Leisure Centre on Sundays from 4pm to 5pm.
Going from strength to strength, the club has enjoyed great success in the Cardiff League, with promotion for the men's, women's and mixed teams in their respective divisions.
To continue the development, the Vale Club is also looking for new senior players, especially women, and they can attend training sessions at the Cowbridge centre on Sundays (6pm to 8pm) or Tuesdays (8pm to 10pm).
The club is sponsored by local businesses, including The Bear Hotel and O'Shea and Owen Chartered Accountants. Cllr Michael Harvey, the Council's Cabinet Member (Economic Development and Leisure), said: "Through its sports development unit, the Council is delighted to support Cowbridge Badminton Club who are committed to an exciting programme."
Further information on badminton initiatives in the Vale can be obtained from Helen Creed on 07714 255076.
