Jamie is still our shining star

BARRY'S very own Popstar has done the town proud as he sailed through the lastest vote-out in ITV's 'The Rivals'.

Seventeen-year-old Jamie Shaw is thriving on the competition which is keeping the nation glued to their television sets.

Last weekend saw one of the favourites pull out before the votes were announced.

Pencoedtre Village resident Jamie spoke to the News about his emotional good-bye to Peter Smith when he made the shock announcement he was leaving the show because he was two months too old.

He said: "I heard a conversation just before we went live that something was going on. But we honestly had no idea Peter was leaving.

"He's a really great guy. We all like him and respect him immensely for the decision to leave before someone else had to."

At the moment, Jamie is struggling with a sore throat, but knows he will be in peak fitness for the next round just over a week away.

He added: "It was a bit painful when I sang on Saturday, but I got through fine."

His mum and dad Cheryl and Adrian Shaw are rooting for him at home. Jamie added: "No need to say it, but they are thrilled and they're behind me all the way.

"Plus I'm getting really positive vibes from the public. We went out with cameras to see how people on the streets reacted to us and it was great."
