LAST Tuesday while walking to work, I noticed that nearly all the rainwater drains from Newton Street to opposite the junction of Woodland Road in Court Road were blocked, not by leaves but by the accumulation of silt, sand and gravel.
I know that it was raining very heavily, but for that number of drains to be blocked I think that is about time that the council adopted a proactive approach to this problem and not a reactive one.
Possibly if the drains had been free flowing, the lower part of Cadoxton would not have been flooded.
I may be wrong but have not seen any gully suckers used in this area for over a year, but have been held up on a couple of occasions while cycling through Dinas Powys on a number of weekends.
Streetlights are now numbered, so if the light is out or broken, this number can be reported, and the light repaired.
The Barry Borough Council, years ago, had problem area drains numbered on the kerbside. Printed cards were available from the council, which could be filled with the name of the street and the number of the drain, when it was noticed that it was blocked. Why not use this method again.
