Seven students gain their black belts

UNITED Tae Kwon-Don International 1st degree black belts are the reward for seven local students from the Cadoxton School of Tae Kwon-Do.

Six students aged nine, Stevie Ellis, Shanice Taylor Davies, Adam Hartery, James Sullivan, Joshua Peacock, and Nathan Taylor, plus Neil Taylor, aged 11, succeeded in passing the two day gruelling examination under the watchful eye of Dutch grand master Karel van Orsouw 8th degree, Ron Thomas 6th degree, Japp Teeuwissen 6th degree and Gary Brady 5th degree.

The two day examination consisted of the traditional aspects of TKD - Patterns, Set Sparring, Free Sparring, Self-defence, Weapons, and to complete the exam, a power test consisting of breaking wood with the hands and feet.

After the exam Grand Master van Orsouw complimented the group and their instructor Mr Ron Thomas 6th Degree on their high and improving standard of Tae Kwon-Don. A celebration buffet and disco was held at the Market Street Club where certificates and new black belts were presented to the successful students.

New students are always welcome at the Victoria Park Community Centre and the Colcot Sports Centre. For further information and training times, phone Barry 406372 or 409228.
