EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of October 23, 1952:
Mrs A Kemp is the chairman of the new Conservative Women's branch of the Gladstone Road polling district in the Holton Ward of Barry Dock.
Over 200 prints exhibited by 35 of the Camera Club's 41 members, are included in this year's exhibition by the Barry Camera Club.
The weekly meeting of the OAP No 3 Branch (Suburb) was well attended. An address was given by Mr T J Davies.
After a lighthearted first night on October 7, during which the president (Alan Brinn) and the chairman (Mr R C R Richards) welcomed over 50 old and new members, the Barry Music Club settled down to serious work on Tuesday week.
A successful first meeting of the newly formed Barry West Branch of the National British Women's Total Abstinence Union was held on Monday at St Francis' Hall, presided over by Mrs Joy of Penarth.
Arthur Meggitt, chairman of the Barry Divisional Conservative Association, welcomed representatives from all parts of the division to a Conservative trade unionist meeting at Cadoxton.

Further pressure is to be put on the South Glamorgan Health Authority to get a minor casualty unit opened at the Barry Community Hospital.
An auxiliary coastguard from Llantwit Major received the Royal Humane Society's Testimonial on Parchment at a ceremony in London on Tuesday. The award to John George Egan, of Vachell Court, Boverton, was made on behalf of HM the Queen by Lord Oram.
Mrs E Storey presided at the November meeting of the Llantwit Major Women's Institute, which was held at the Tabernacle Vestry.
Miss M Jowett MBE was the guest speaker at the meeting of the Barry Business and Professional Women's Club on Monday week.
At the meeting of the Barry Town Council last week, cllr Don Whitchurch referred to the dangerous condition of the empty houses at Churchill Terrace.
