Speed plan

I HEAR that the Welsh Assembly Government are looking to give road speed control powers to local authorities, in an attempt to kerb accidents on local highways. All residents living in current high risk areas will welcome this.

As far as I understand, I am told that we could see speeds in residential streets slashed from 30mph down to 20mph and main roads in towns reduced from 60 and 50 down to 40 or less mph.

This will not only reduce the number of fatalities or accidents seen, but also reduce the motorist's fuel usage, thus reducing pollution and possibly insurance premiums - good news.

So it is not only the excellent free travel schemes or the freezing of prescription charges that is coming out of the Labour led Assembly, but other excellent schemes such as this. The Welsh Assembly is working for Wales.
