Disabled boy tops the tables in holiday pool

A DISABLED Barry boy has overcome his condition to find a sport he can not only take part in - but excel at.

Nicholas Clements, 13, of Cora Street has had to cope with poor co-ordination and balance since he was born. He could never take part in physical activities in school and has always felt left out of games.

But at a summer holiday he found he has a talent for pool, and it even won him and his family another holiday.

His mum Claire said: "Nicholas was only recently diagnosed with Ectodermal Displaysia and Chaka Marie Tooth. Both conditions affect his limbs, giving him a lack of co-ordination. But when they went to Devon Valley Holiday Park in Teignmouth last April, he played a game as part of the junior team, and did really well."

The young player, who goes to school at St Cyres in Penarth beat everyone in the tournament and was invited back for Winners Week, running from Tuesday October 15 to Saturday October 19.

On Thursday, he took part in the pool tournament, and won again.

He took home a trophy, a certificate and £40 for him to spend on anything he wants to.

His mum added: "His school are always really supportive, and his form teacher Miss Mudd will be very pleased when she finds out he's won again. It's a huge achievement.

"It's really given him a boost. The whole family are thrilled and we're encouraging him to play as much as he wants. His grandfather and uncles are going to take him to a pool hall, because he's only ever played on a small table before. He's enjoying half-term now, and he's playing on the pool table more than ever."
