In context

IN REPLY to the letter October 17 (Barry & District News) headed "Shocking," I am the lady mentioned who runs the Lottery Bonus Ball draw with very helpful assistants.

I am annoyed, and feel that there is an inference that makes me out as dishonest.

Let me put things in context, the writer said she was told "Sorry, I paid another member and I can't ask for the £40 back, and you can't be paid out of the funds, it was a mistake and I am sorry." (This is untrue!). The writer was told there had been a mistake, but not as she quoted.

The lady who sells the number for the Lottery Bonus Ball will, if requested, write the numbers picked on a piece of paper, so members will remember their own numbers.

As you will appreciate, we have a lot of pensioners as members and they can get confused.

The error occurred when the seller put the wrong number on the paper - number 23 instead of 28. To make things complicated, both ladies have the same first names

On the table where the numbers are sold is a log book, so when a member draws a number out their full names are entered alongside that number. This book is kept for records, so any member can see it at any time.

I challenge the writer or any of her family to check the book for any alterations or erasures, or any effort to cover anything up for that date number 23 won the draw.

As regards paying any monies from the fund, we have no petty cash fund and the fund mentioned belongs to the Victoria Park Community Centre Bingo Club members.

I am sorry if any doubt has been caused by this silly mistake, and I hope the lady concerned will return to the Bingo Club soon, because she is a very good member, and we will welcome her back.
