AN INAUGURAL summer league has provided a tremendous boost for junior bowls in the Vale of Glamorgan
The culmination of the season, which also involved a team from Cadoxton, was a thrilling final between Llantwit Major and Murch (Dinas Powys) won by the former with the last bowl.
An exciting partnership between the Vale Council sports development unit and the Welsh Bowling Association, the league ran throughout July and August and allowed youngsters taking part in the schools' coaching programme the opportunity of competitive play.
The Vale's Cabinet Member (Economic Development and Leisure), Cllr Michael Harvey, said: "The three local clubs attract more than 50 youngsters between them to their weekly coaching sessions and the sport obviously has a very bright future in the Vale.
"Junior bowls development initiatives in the Vale and particularly the new league has certainly dispelled the myth that bowls is a game played just by the elderly."
