Rewarding

With reference to the letter 'Admonish,' Barry & District News, September 19. As a parent of three children attending Ysgol Sant Curig, two bilingual and one in nursery, I would just like to let you know how proud I am that my eldest child was chosen by her peers to perform the task of a "gwylwyr".

Due to Huw Edwards lack of knowledge of the Welsh language I would like to enlighten him as to the true meaning of a gwylwyr:

To report good behaviour, maintain safety and encourage their peers to speak Welsh (in a Welsh speaking school).

These reports are then rewarded with the children obtaining house points.

I see this as a positive position not a negative one.

Every primary school in Barry has a gwylwyr but in English this means watch person. It is a scheme that is organised by Barry Police liaison officer PC Jim Fletcher. Ysgol Sant Curig pride themselves on winning the School Watch Award two years running.

Helen Williams, (Proud parent), Barry.
