I AM WRITING in response to the letter in a recent edition of The News entitled 'No Benefit'.
I am unaware of the source of Mr Downes' information, but would like to clarify that the Barry Town Council has made no financial investment into the development of the Steam Railway. The only contribution that the council makes is by way of an elected representative who attends meetings on a voluntary basis, without any financial gain.
Regarding the signage at the Memorial Hall Theatre: the wording 'The Memo' is a logo intended to provide a more contemporary branding. It is a superb facility for all the people of Barry, both young and old, to enjoy, for many types of events that take place within the theatre and halls.
The council has purposely kept the full name of the building on the signage and all marketing and branding material, and has also introduced bilingual signage throughout the building, and on all stationery and Press advertising.
The council believes the Memorial Hall Theatre stands in the hearts of the people of Barry, and will continue to support the development of the venue for all to benefit from.
I hope the above explains the council's regard and respect for the building, and assures you that the council continues to give its full and most thoughtful attention.
Councillor D Tooze Mayor of Barry
