TNS 1, Barry Town 0
MANAGER Kenny Brown is demanding more fight from his players after Town fell to back-to-back defeats for the first time in seven years.
The team have a chance to show they can respond when they take on Haverfordwest at home tomorrow (Friday), kick off 7.30pm.
They will be without Nicky Burke, starting a three-match ban after being sent off against Port Talbot.
Also out is striker Dave Toomey and Simon Rayner, who will miss several games after breaking his finger against TNS (see also, panel).
If supporters could see some signs that Barry are on the right road, despite the injury and suspension problems, they would be happier.
But Barry are not playing particularly well, with too many players off form. How Barry need a driving force in the middle of the park, someone who is vocal and urging the players on.
Kenny can't understand how his talented squad are all so quiet on the pitch. "It just seems all the players are quiet personalities and no-one is taking authority by encouraging the players around them", he explained.
"Defensively we are very sound but we are not creating enough chances and when we do, they are not being converted into goals. I am unhappy with one or two players and I'm looking for my players to show more fight and mental toughness."
People want to see some spark and enthusiasm and not players going through the motions. Jon French, Nathan Cottterill and Tom Ramasut are way off their best form and these are the supply players. If they are not performing then the strikers are being starved of chances.
After only seven minutes, Simon Rayner dropped a free kick under pressure and John Leah pounced on the loose ball to score from close range.
Ten minutes later an outrageous challenge on Rayner left him with a broken finger but the referee did not see fit to book TNS striker Steve Antrobus who was responsible.
Gary Lloyd, a more than capable substitute for Rayner, took his place between the sticks and was not really troubled until the 40th minute when he produced a great save tipping over the bar.
The second half was a strange one, with TNS content to sit on their single goal lead and let Barry have the ball.
Frankly Barry never looked like scoring and certainly missed the injured Jamie Moralee. With Dave Toomey out of action still, Barry will play Haverfordwest without a recognised striker, unless Moralee recovers in time.
Possible Barry team: Lloyd, York, Jarman, Morgan, Jenkins, Phillips, Kennedy, Ramasut, Cotterill, French, Davies. Subs Brown, Pratt, Moralee.
Gary Lloyd will continue to keep goal as reserve keeper Leigh is also injured. Tim Johnson is taking names for the trip to Llanelli on October 2, for the Wednesday night game.
The coach leaves at 5.45pm, adults £6, children £3. Ring Tim on 734050 to book.
