I recently read in your newspaper that the council are to make a list of landmark buildings of industrial, architectural and historical interest worthy of saving in the Vale. This from a council that thinks that a listed building is one which either leans to the right or left and needs demolishing.

Industrial Interest - How many coal tips, cranes and signal boxes were saved for posterity at Barry Docks? I've looked and failed to find any.

Last week whilst out walking around Sully I noticed a low loader carrying a steam engine No 92245 being driven up the Hayes Road late at night, has this one been sold? Two other engines I saw recently were going across the docks to the new engine shed on the Waterfront.

Historical Interest - One of the oldest lived in cottages in Pencoedtre Lane, Cadoxton, with records of it being inhabited from the 1760's up until the 1940's has been recently demolished by developers, this was "Travellers Rest," an old coaching inn.

Architectural Interest - Command House at Atlantic Estate, was one of the best looking and designed buildings in the area and has now been left to vandals and is a likely candidate for demolition. The old fire station in Court Road, with holes in the roof and broken windows looking ready to fall down is another.

The toilets and cloakrooms at Barry Island and the Knap, are two more buildings that should be refurbished and re-opened, if not for posterity but to replace the inadequate facilities for visitors to both beaches.

But as all these are in Barry and not in the Vale, they will be of little or no consequence to this council.
