I have lived in Barry all my life and I have seen a lot of changes to the area, some good but quite a lot bad.
I have recently found out that the Barry Town Council has invested a large amount of money into the development of the Steam Railway. Why?
Do they feel the people of the town need a steam railway? It is very nice and it is in keeping with the town's history, but do they really think that it is going to benefit the people in the town? I don't think so.
Do they not think that the money would be better spent on the youth service, or the upkeep of the parks in the town?
The railway is the straw that broke the camels back, shall we say. But the worst decision that the council has ever made has got to be The Memo. I'm 36 years old and I'm offended. This has to be the most disrespectful thing I have seen. When I first saw this it made the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. The people of Barry call it The Memo but that is a lot different to naming the building.
I wonder if the men and women who gave their lives would appreciate it. A memo is something that you send, it is no way related to the memories of the brave men and women who fought for our country.
