Miss Erica Davies, daughter of Mr Jack Davies, chairman of the Barry Lawn Tennis Club, won an open ladies tennis tournament at St Ives during her holidays. Miss Davies is a former junior champion of Glamorgan.
Mrs T Lee presided at the opening meeting of the Barry OAP No 3 Branch, in the absence of Mrs Gwilym Davies.
About 55 young men in Barry are expected to register at the Employment Exchange on Saturday, September 6, for National Service. They are men born between October 1 and December 31, 1934.
About 30 residents of Davies Street, Cadoxton, formed a party which had a pleasant afternoon on Thursday, inspecting the new "Abco" bread factory of the Astra Bakery Co, at Court Road. The party was conducted round the factory by Mr C Butler.
In the 1952 June examinations Mr W E Coysh, Licentiate of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries, of Woodlands Road, successfully completed the final examination of the Association of certified and Corporate Accountants.
Police sergeant Arnold R Richards, of Gilfach Goch, who has retired after 30 years service with the Glamorgan Constabulary was stationed for a time in Barry. It was during this period that he played for Cardiff and was "capped" for Wales against France in the 1924 season.

Barry is the home of a young woman who tries to be the most careful driver in Wales.
Why? Because Helen Cooke has a new mini, which is one of only a handful in the country with a high gloss Union Jack Flag on its paintwork.
A claim by about 400 technicians and foremen at BP chemical plants in South Wales, including nearly 200 at Barry, for 35 percent pay rises of up to £1,600 a year, has been rejected by the company.
Two students to win awards at the South Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education's bakery and confectionery department were Claire L Young, Colcot Road and Karen Evans, Ogmore Place.
Mrs Joan Griffiths, organiser at the Barry office of the Citizens' Advice Bureau, visited the St Nicholas Darby and Joan Club on Friday. For the first time in four years Barry Plastics Social Club enjoyed a complete afternoon of events without interruptions because of rain at Swanbridge on Saturday.
