I have recently received a reply from venue manager Kate Long to my letter regarding the Memorial Hall name change.

In it Ms Long states that "the use of the new Logo 'the Memo' is part of a Barry Town Council approved initiative to develop a more contemporary branding for the Memorial Hall Theatre." This appears to confirm my worst fears, that I and many others in the town have, that the use of the hall is to be marketed in future under the branding of 'the Memo.'

Ms Long did not comment on my point that if it is not the intention to change the name, then the words 'Memorial Hall Theatre' should be given at least equal prominence. Perhaps she would now like to now address this point.

So far as the Hall of Memory is concerned, I was pleased to hear that Ms Long agrees that it is a vital part of the building, however the idea that it will only be refurbished "if substantial funds could be secured" seems to make this a very remote possibility.

Substantial funds appear to have been available for all the other purposes that the hall manager required, so if this matter is given the priority that it deserves, then I am sure that the funding could be found.
