A MOTHER whose 25-year-old only son was found dead in a flat has spoken publicly about the tragedy for the first time.
And she has made a plea to local people to give her family some peace to allow them come to terms with the death.
Police are still investigating the cause of death of father-of-two Andrew Cambridge, whose body was found in a flat in Main Street, Barry, on July 2.
A post mortem examination proved inconclusive. Police are now awaiting the outcome of toxicology tests to see whether drugs played a part.
Because of the circumstances surrounding his death, Val Cambridge only buried her son on Friday, August 9, even though he was found dead more than a month earlier.
Val, who is in her early 50s and suffers from poor health, said: There is no conclusive answer to how Andy died, and as such rumours have been flying around the town."
But this means little to the retired nurse, who added: "Andrew was my son, and I loved him. He was a devoted dad to his two little girls and he was a wonderfully warm person.
For him to have been taken away from us so young is terrible.
"Whatever the situation that led to his death and whatever answers the police might find, nothing will bring him back."
Andrea Rowlands, 30, was a close friend of Andrew's. The High Street resident shared happy times with him and is finding it hard to cope with her loss. She said: "Andrew is my soulmate. We've known each other for 13 years. I miss him so much. He'll never leave my thoughts or my heart. He is my best friend and my feelings for him will always run deep. I know he's watching over me."
Andrea's daughter Natasha, 11, also has fond memories of Andrew. She said: "He always used to call me 'his gal', he was like a big brother to me. He'd come down to the house every day and I'm going to miss him as much as my mum will."
Val is still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy. She said: "There have been some people who have been quite cruel to my family. We've had weird phone calls at all times of the night and it's been very upsetting.
"Thankfully, many people have been very kind. My friends have been wonderful, especially Nia, Andrea and Paul Rowlands, Carole and Vince and the Miller family. I will always appreciate the support they have given us.
"But two little girls have been left without a daddy, my husband Jim and I have lost our son, my daughter has lost her brother. Now it's time to let us be so we can start to heal in private."
Five people have been arrested and released on bail.
