SPENCER Bennett, 19, (1st Dan, Sempai) who trains at Barry Kyokushin Karate Club based at Barry YMCA, is flying to Stockholm to prepare for the European Full Contact championships in Bulgaria in September.
Spencer will be the only representative for Wales. He will spend one month in Stockholm training three times a day, six days a week under the instruction of Robert Vickland (2nd Dan).
The competition abroad is very fierce as no pads are worn at all. This is why he is searching for much needed experience before the European Tournament.
Spencer is British semi contact champion 2001-2002 and also came third in the British full contact championship 2001 (where pads must be worn).
He has had the added bonus of training with the 2001 British Full Contact Champion, his brother Lee Bennett (2nd Dan) and together with his club, training with Sensei Richard Males, he is hoping to excel in this fierce European Competition circuit.
Barry Kyokushin trains on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and are currently preparing a Beginners Course for early September. Anyone wishing to enroll should contact Richard Males on 0777 948 7218 or 01446 720843.
